“The Beauty Project” is an essential addition to our vocational programs. Beauty parlors and services provided by beauticians are an important part of a woman’s life. Indian women are regular visitors at these parlors that are typically run by women and provide a range of services from makeup, hair, pedicure, manicure, bridal makeups and so on.
Skills acquired as a trained beautician go a long way for the women in our program. Women are able to offer basic beauty care from their own homes to their communities. The training is provided in a way that women can offer basic services without extensive or expensive beauty supplies or equipment.
The Beauty Project provides women a unique advantage; not only are women able to get hand-on training by a trained beautician, but are also able to practice on each other without paying a large apprenticeship fee. The program provides the beauty supplies and extensive training so that women can start their own beauty shop even from their home.
The project is currently supported by one full-time teacher. Her fees are provided by personal funds and by a small registration fee paid by the women enrolled in the program. As the program grows, we intend to set up well-equipped beauty stations where women can further enhance their skills.
We intend to follow stories of the inspiring students in our program and share them with you. Please see pictures from “The Beauty Project” in our Gallery.
